It is going to depend on what the coins are and how fast you want the money. If you want the money NOW, then sell to a coin dealer. If you can wait a couple of weeks and the coins are pretty common, then sell them on Ebay. If time isn’t a concern and you have some really nice coins, then I would consign them to a numismatic auction. You would need a coin collector/dealer’s help to decide if your coins are really above average. A coin auctioner could help you as well. There are many of them in the LA area. If the coins aren’t American, maybe try Freeman and Sear, they are in LA and are one of the most prestigious coin firms in America. The owner and I have chatted frequently over our shared last name and he is a very nice person.

eBay is good for coin sales. Do your research if you haven’t used them before. If you decide to use eBay, make sure your auction ends at a time for the maximum audience, like 9 pm EST. Good pictures help a lot also. Gold coins draw a good crowd on eBay.
